Body polish, as the name suggests, polishes the body. Apart from this amazing feature it also hydrates and exfoliates your body by making it softer and smoother.

Body polish is just like a complete body facial but it is not to be confused with a ‘massage’ at all. You may avail both, the facial and massage, but you’ll have to pay for each of them separately. In other words, you can’t get both in one deal.

Ingredients of body polish entirely depend on you, as you can add any materials according to your choice and need. The polish may be prepared by mixing sugar, salt, coffee grounds, rice bran, pecan hulls etc. with any of the massage oil aromatics like essential oils. You may call it a salt scrub, sea salt scrub or salt glow if your polish includes salt. Shower and body lotion application usually follows the exfoliation.

Process followed in a Body Polish

Spas have smartly worked on the design of a wet room (an area where body polish is carried out professionally). This room gives a feeling of peace. It usually has a massage treatment table accompanied with a handheld shower or Vichy shower. Therapist asks you to unveil yourself and to lie on the table. She may ask you to wear a pair of disposable underwear; men are usually asked to wear them. Your massage table is covered with a towel, sheet or plastic. They may have a special Vitchy shower overhead. In such a case you have no need to stand for a shower.

The therapist will begin the process by asking you to lie on your stomach and by exfoliating your back, the back of your arms, and the back of your legs. You will be covered with a wet towel and only the area where she is working will be exposed. By asking you to turn over she will repeat the process on the front side of your body.

After exfoliation she will go for rinsing your body off. She can ask you to stand in the shower or if spa is offering hand held or vitchy shower then, you can keep laying and she will wash out the mask off your body. Soap or shower gel should be avoided in this rinsing process because they will wash out all the moisturizer of the mask. If you had a plan to take a massage after that, this moisturizer will work as the pre- coat for it.

If you are asked to take a shower by standing than in the meanwhile she will change the table sheet or towel with the clean one. Than after taking the shower you’ll be asked to lie on the clean sheet and she will apply body lotion or oil.

Important Points You Should Know About Body Polishes

Some spas use wet towels, instead of showers, to remove the Exfoliant.

Body polish can be given separately but usually it is the first step in the body wrap. Body polish can be combined with a massage for a better impact. If you plan to take both in one visit, it is advisable to take the body polish first because of its stimulating effect; a massage, later, will help calming your nerves and body. Some spas offer a signature treatment by combining both, the massage and Polish, as it is good for the skin.

Exfoliation is not a gentle process and if it is being carrying out by salt then it can be twice as harsh as the normal exfoliation process. The Hand of the person treating you, and their massage, matters a lot. Some therapists lack the softness of hands and are little bit hard in treatment. It is advised that you should tell the therapist if you are uncomfortable with the treatment.
