What is acne?
Acne is a skin disorder that leads to scares in most of the cases. It affects the skin of face, neck, shoulders and the back. Acne is not a serious threat to life but its looks very bad where ever it appears on the body.
I have mentioned the targeted area of acne, it is a very rare scenario that you will find acne in any other body part. The main reason behind this is the abundance of oil glands in these areas. Acne only occurs in those specific areas that are rich in oil glands.
When acne appears?
Well, the most affected age group is the teenage. Almost every person in the teenage suffers from this problem. None of us wants it but we always have to face it. After this age, it is found very rare. If it happens after age of 19, then it mostly targets women. The ratio of women being affected by acne is much higher than the males after teenage.
Types
If we broadly categorize acne, there are two main types. These are inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne. The second one is more commonly observed so I will be discussing it in detail.
Acne is of various types. It ranges from mild to moderate and from moderate to severe acne. The two of the most commonly known types of acne are whitehead and blackhead and they fall under the category of non-inflammatory acne.
In whitehead, small white spots appear on the skin. But most of the times they are too small to be seen by the naked eye. It happens when a special type of bacteria causing this disease saty under the skin. Whitehead acne is faster in its lifecycle as compared to blackhead acne.
Blackhead is much more stable and long term in nature. This happens when some of the bacteria literally pop out of the pores causing spots of black or brown color. It may seem like dirt but this can’t be easily washed away as it takes very long time for skin clearance.
Besides the two types of acne, there are many other kinds of acne as well. These include papule, nodule, pustule, cyst etc. when we normally call as pimple is also a type of acne and it falls under the category of pustule.
Conclusion
Acne in all its forms is very disturbing and it is a very unpleasant situation for the person. There are many different types of acne. Scars on the face, pimples, small granules these are all broadly categorized as acne. Acne mostly appears at the age of 13-19 years and it is confined to body parts with high number of oil glands like face, chest, shoulders, back etc.
