2: Application of self-tanner on your face:

This is a four-step process. InStyle’s May 2007 issue published an incident when makeup artist Scott Barnes unconsciously missed a spot once on Jennifer Lopez’s ear because he forgot to pull her hair up.
Firstly, clean your skin by softly exfoliating it. Select a moisturizer carefully according to your skin type.
Secondly, gently apply a good under-eye cream. Barnes mentions in InStyle that light color under the eyes will give you a younger look.
Thirdly, take a few drops of self-tanner and moisturizer and mix them on your palm. Apply this mixture on your face and neck. Your desire is only to go one shade darker than your natural one.
Fourthly, give a three hour rest to your skin to develop natural color. Then follow a sweep of bronzer on forehead, nose and cheeks; remember that sunlight directly strikes these areas.
Later, gently treat remaining tanner on other areas, especially around ears. Then wash hands properly and apply sunscreen.
3: Self-tan your body
Body self-tanning process comprises three steps. Use a good body scrub to exfoliate your skin. Do it gently in the shower by giving special consideration to the rougher areas. Also, remove unwanted hair before tanning. InStyle suggests the use of body oil, instead of any cream, for shaving.
Barnes has suggested applying Vaseline softly on cuticles and nails. This will help you in protecting your manicure and also in the staining of fingertips.
Start applying tanner from legs, smoothly and gently all over. Sweep it down to your ankle, toes and feet. Now work on the thighs, front to back, by covering the knees. Lastly switch to hips, stomach and torso and repeat the procedure such that every inch of the body is covered. Your arms and shoulders must not be forgotten. Leave everything as it is, for the next 10 minutes. Stay calm for the next few hours and avoid any major workouts.
Rub your palms with a wet washcloth to remove tanner. Apply a body shimmer afterwards for glow.
4: Choose the right product for tanning
A wide range of tanners such as air brush tanners, cream tans, bronzing gel, tinted tans and tan enhancers are available in the market. Body shimmers and bronzing powders are also available in huge variety. You can use these to layer your tanner, if the tanner color fades. It is advisable to apply the lotion, before you put on shimmer or bronzing powder.
In case you are done with a streaky tan, then go for a toothpaste or astringent toner. Exfoliate gently but avoid darkening it too much. Repeat the whole process to let the tanner develop.
